Weekend Telegraph, page W4

Did you see my piece in the Telegraph today?

I hope so.
It's important that you did.
Although the charity aspect was minimal in the paper (with thousands of people each campaigning for publicity to get their adopted charities into the press, you need a good story that's different to get into a national) it's very important to me.

I know from personal experience just how valuable cycling is to those who are suffering or recovering from cancer. That's backed up by empirical evidence (some of which is on Cyclist Fighting Cancer's pages). Regular exercise of an appropriate level helps the body get rid of the toxic by-products of chemotherapy. That's going to be particularly important for small kids.

Without cycling I'd not be able to manage my chronic fatigue well enough to have anything remotely like a normal life. Imagine how much more important it is for a young person who might not fully understand why they need regular or moderate exercise, but would love to go out to play on their bike or go cycling with family and friends.

Cyclists Fighting Cancer gives so much to children and their families. In providing specially adapted bikes and trikes to children in need, the charity doesn't just help with what I've mentioned but also gives them a way to play with their peers and feel a little more normal. That's something they might not otherwise be able to do.

Please help.
Please donate.

  1. I never heard of bicycling helping in the recovery of cancer. This made me smile to see how happy the kids were on their bikes. I must mention this to my brother as his son finished treatment for cancer (he is 8 now and fought for 2 years...) He is very active and I love this idea. Thank you.

  3. Thank you for what you're doing to help fighting cancer. I've also suffered from a form of cancer when I was a baby and I really find your story inspiring (if that is the right term).

  4. Thank you! I'm sure I don't need to tell you how difficult it is to fight people's inclination to fit you into the 'victim' box.. Getting the message out and getting funds to help with associated work is very important to me though, however we choose to describe it :)
